Dr. Michael Miller is a cardiologist and Professor of Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Chief of Medicine at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia. Previously, he served as Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Director of the Center for Preventive Cardiology at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Dr. Miller received his medical degree from Rutgers RWJ Medical School, internal medicine residency at the University of Cincinnati, and cardiology training at Johns Hopkins. He earned his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University as a Henry Rutgers Scholar with Highest Distinction.

Dr. Miller's original research focuses on heart disease prevention and lipid disorders, including genetic and clinical studies of HDL cholesterol, triglyceride metabolism, dietary patterns and postprandial lipemia. His work has also examined aspirin resistance, exercise-induced hypertension, inflammation, iron overload, the omega-3 fatty acid, Icosapent ethyl and vascular effects of emotional stress, laughter, and music. He has authored numerous influential studies supporting fasting triglyceride levels below 100 mg/dL as optimal for coronary prevention (The TG 100 Rule) and identified the relationship between laughter and vascular health (link)

Dr. Miller's work has been widely cited and published in leading medical journals, including The BMJ, Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, JAMA, Nature Medicine, The New England Journal of Medicine, and Science. He has also been featured in national and international media outlets, including The New York Times, Associated Press, Scientific American, The Times (London), National Geographic as well as television programs such as Good Morning America, Rachael Ray, and The Doctors.

Dr. Miller currently serves as Chair of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology and as Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical Lipidology. He is a past President of the American Society for Preventive Cardiology and previously served as Chair of Governor Larry Hogan's Advisory Council on Health and Wellness in Maryland. Dr. Miller has also served as a consultant to the Library of Congress and contributed to the development of the Heart Health Forever Stamp issued by the United States Postal Service.
